The Lindenwood men's and women's tennis teams competed against two competitive programs this weekend as they squared off against Washburn and Drury in Springfield, Mo. On Saturday, the men's team lost to Washburn 8-1 and the women's team was shut out 9-0 while Sunday's match ended with another loss by Drury with the same scores.
The Lions had their lone victory at the Cooper Tennis Center come from
Eric Tucoulou where he won 6-4, 6-7, 10-7. Washburn took the remaining five matches to go up 5-1. The Ichapods swept Lindenwood in doubles-action with the closest game coming from
Otavio Costa and
Rahul Sadhwani in an 8-6 match. Tucoulou also competed in doubles competition with
Gauthier Schilling but lost 8-2.
On Sunday, the men's battled against the Drury Panthers and were swept in singles competiion with Schilling having closest contest 6-2, 7-5 10-6. The Lions had their solo victory come in doubles action in the No. 3 match where
Juan Vicenzio and Sadhwani won 8-5.
The Lady Lions got off to a rocky start as they opened up their spring schedule. Against Washburn, Lindenwood was shut out by the future MIAA opponent and were unable to take a single set off the Lady Blues in both the single and doubles competition.
Lindenwood competed against Drury on Sunday as well where it once again could not catch a break. The Lady Lions were shut out in doubles action 8-0, 8-2, 8-0. Sarah Shapre competed in he No. 4 match where she had the closest outing with a 6-0, 6-4 score.
The Lindenwood tennis teams will be back in action as they travel Maryville, Mo., to take on Northeast Missouri State on March 3. Match time is set to begin at 10 a.m.
