The Lindenwood men's wrestling team concluded its 2011-2012 season at the NCWA National Championship Tournament. The Lions finished fourth as a team along with five wrestlers achieving All-American honors and
Clayton Macfarlane winning the only National Championship in the 165 pound weight class.
The Lions opened the tournament with a stellar performance placing second with several victories. Blayne Shockley advanced to the quarterfinals of the 125 pound division before falling the next day.
Cullen Halpin and Jacob Johnson also qualified to the next round of their weight classes before Halpin was subdued by an injury and Johnson lost 0-2.
Lindenwood's top wrestler was
Clayton Macfarlane who won the 165 pound national championship. Macfarlane was 3-0 before advancing to the semi-finals and eventually went on to win the title. Other Lions included
Craig Chiles placing second place in the 141 pound weight class with
Jacob Janes recording third in the same division.
Michael Caldwell recorded fourth in the 133 pound weight class while
Daniel Breit and Mason Ridenhour finished in the 157 pound division with a fifth and sixth place finish, respectively.
