In one of the more defensive battles of the year for the men's rugby team, Lindenwood stopped Indiana 43-7 at Hunter Stadium Saturday night in the last home game of the season.
The Lions dominated field position early in the contest, but squandered several chances to score until fullback Morgan Findlay finally broke the ice with a try 15 minutes into the game. Lindenwood crossed the line again later in the half thanks to a great effort from junior center Stephen Duff as he powered his way through five Hoosiers for the score. At the half, the Lions were ahead 12-0.
Consistent Lindenwood pressure finally started to wear down Indiana in the second half. Tyler Black took advantage when he peeled off the back of a scrum to deliver a 30 meter run for a try. Brendan Davis crossed the line twice and winger
Mathius Harris picked up a score as well and was involved in what could be the best try of the season for the Lions later in the game. As time was winding down, Duff and Lincoln Magee maneuvered the ball into the hands of Harris who single handedly beat four defenders and outran two others to put the finishing touches on the 43-7 victory.
Lindenwood improved to 15-0 in collegiate play. The Lions travel to Oklahoma to face the Tulsa Men's Club April 21 as they continue to tune up for the USA Rugby Division II Sweet 16 in Madison, Wis. April 28-29.
