Lindenwood Women's Volleyball Start Season 2-0 at Drury Classic

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 The Lindenwood women's volleyball squad started its 2012 season on Friday with a pair of victories at the La Quinta Inn and Suites Kick-Off Classic hosted by Drury University. The Lady Lions defeated Kentucky Wesleyan 3-0 in the morning match and finished off Cameron (Okla.) University 3-2 in the afternoon session.

The Lady Lions defeated Kentucky Wesleyan by the scores of 25-13, 25-16, and 25-22. Lindenwood finished the morning with a .211 hitting percentage while knocking down 36 total kills. The Lady Lions held Kentucky Wesleyan to only a .036 hitting percentage for the match.

Lindenwood was led by Freshman Kristin Burnett, who led all players with 13 kills and posted a .500 hitting percentage. Emma Brydels led all players with 25 assists.

The Lady Lions took control from the very beginning, taking a commanding 9-2 lead in the first set. Kentucky Wesleyan never gained any momentum as the Lady Lions cruised through the first three sets.

The second match of the day was a different story as Cameron took set one before Lindenwood would rally back in sets two and three. Set four would be a battle back and forth, as there were 12 ties and four lead changes before Cameron ultimately took the set. The fifth set tiebreaker was much like set four, until Lindenwood finished on a 5-0 run.

Lindenwood held Cameron to a .129 hitting percentage while the Lady Lions hit .183. Brydels had a strong second match, recording a 40 assist, 20 dig double-double. Freshman Kayla Guyot, Kelsey Kennedy, and Burnett all recorded double-digit kills.

The Lady Lions are now 2-0 on the season will take the court tomorrow at 11:15 a.m. against Newman (Kan.) University before facing host school Drury (Mo.) University at 6:00 p.m.
