The Lindenwood women's volleyball squad took it to five sets on Tuesday night against Truman State University, but the Bulldogs defeated the Lady Lions 3-2. The contest was the inaugural MIAA match for Lindenwood and also the 2012 home opener.
Truman got off to a strong start in the first two sets, jumping out to a quick lead with 25-19 and 25-13 wins. Lindenwood changed the momentum in the middle of set three, coming back from being down as many as three to tie it up at 17-all. The two teams would battle back-and-forth for the next few points before the Lady Lions closed out set three with 25-22 victory.
The Lady Lions continued their pace in the start of the fourth, getting out to a 12-7 lead. The Lady Lion lead continued to snowball in the set, going up by as many as eight on several occasions. Truman tried to battle back in the end, but Lindenwood held the Bulldogs off for a 25-20 fourth set win.
Tables turned going into the fifth set, as the Bulldogs got off to a quick 12-3 lead. Lindenwood won four straight points in the middle of the set, but it was too little, too late. Truman took set five by a 15-8 margin.
Erin Anselman led the Lady Lions offensively for the home opener, recording a season-high 19 kills along with 16 digs for a double-double.
Emma Brydels tallied 49 assists for Lindenwood while
Kaila Schrimpf led all players in digs with 27.
As a squad, Truman hit .249 and recorded 63 team kills compared to Lindenwood's 56. The Lady Lions as a team hit .165.
The Lady Lions move to 5-4 on the season. Lindenwood will hit the road for its next contest to Maryville Mo. for a MIAA match-up against Northwest Missouri State University. The match is scheduled for a 7:00 p.m. start time.
