Box Score The Lindenwood men's soccer team won its first MIAA game on Friday afternoon against Southwest Baptist (Mo.) University. The Lions defeated the Bearcats by a score of 3-2.
The Lions got off to a quick start in Bolivar, scoring in the first five minutes of the contest. Ithiel Vale found the back of the net after a receiving a pass from
Hrvoje Bagaric for his first goal of the young season. Bagaric's assist was his first of the season.
Moments before the half, forward
Azeem Razwan gave the Lions an assurance goal, giving the team 2-0 lead going into half time. Razwan now leads the team with three goals this season.
In the 62
nd minute of the match, Southwest Baptist earned a free kick that resulted in a goal by Karl DuPont. Not even four minutes later, the Lions would return the favor, with
Alfredo Paez scoring off of a rebounded shot.
The score would remain 3-1 until the very last moment of the game, when DuPont would score his second goal of the contest after a misplay by goalkeeper
Fermin Hughes.
As a team, the Lions had 15 shots on goal compared to the Bearcats three. Hughes earned the win at the next and tallied one save in the contest.
Lindenwood now moves to 3-1-1 for the season and 1-0 in conference play. The Lions will come back to St. Charles for a home contest against non-conference foe Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) University on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
