Box Score For the first time since being accepted into the NCAA, the Lindenwood men's soccer team cracked the Division II soccer poll at No. 21. On Thursday night, the Lions had a chance to solidify that ranking with a road contest against No. 9, Fort Hays State. Lindenwood answered the bell and beat the Tigers 1-0 in Fort Hays, Kan.
The first half was a defensive half and neither team was able to dent the scoreboard. The teams headed into the break tied at zero.
The second half started just like the first half ended. Both teams were concentrating on limiting the opposition's offense, but finally in the 54
th minute one offense broke through.
Lindenwood was awarded a corner kick and defenseman
Craig McTear headed the corner into the top of the goal for his first goal of the season and it gave the Lions a 1-0 lead.
After Lindenwood took the lead it went right back into a defensive shell. The Lions held onto the shutout and won the battle of the two ranked teams. The game only saw a combined eight shots on goal. Fermin Huhges started in the net for Lindenwood and stopped both shots that came his way.
The Lions have not lost a game in their last seven and are now 6-1-2 on the season. The team is also 3-0-1 in MIAA play. Lindenwood will stay on the road and travel to Southern Nazarene on Saturday night.
