Tennis Programs Defeat Illinois-Springfield

The Lindenwood men's and women's tennis teams came out on top on Saturday afternoon against Illinois-Springfield. The men defeated the Prairie Stars 6-3 and the women won by a 9-0 margin.

On the women's side, the only close match was at number one doubles, where Adela Solvakova and Gloria Marras won 8-6. The number two doubles pairing of Daria Ivanova and Alexandra Medvedeva took the 8-3 victory and Mariona Pinol and Sarah Sharpe took the number three doubles victory with an 8-0 shutout.

All six singles matches came out victorious as the Lady Lions only gave up 11 games in the six, two-set matches. Slovakova defeated her opponent 6-1, 6-3 at number one singles. Marras came out 6-2, 6-0 at number two and Ivanova and Pinol only gave up one game at number three and number five singles, respectively. Medvedeva won number four singles at 6-2, 6-1, and Sarah Sharpe rounded out the team with a shutout victory in the number six slot.

The Lion men dropped two at number one and number two doubles, while picking up an 8-0 shutout at number three doubles. Both the pair of Johannes Rabenhorst/Eddy Belhaouane and Andrey Masin/Ryan Reeves fell by a score of 9-7. Will Hale and Yoshi Ysa turned in the shutout at number three doubles.

Lindenwood came home with five victories in singles, with its one loss at number one singles. Gauthier Schilling fell 6-4, 6-4 in the number one singles spot. Ysa won 6-3, 6-1 at number two, Tiago Mastroianni won 6-2, 6-1 at number three, Masin lost only one game at number four, Belhaouane won 6-0, 6-3 at number five and Rabenhorst lost just one game in a 6-1, 6-0 victory at number six singles.

Both Lindenwood squads improve to 1-1 in dual meets this season. The men will take on Missouri Baptist at home on October 2nd at 3:30 p.m. while the women will host Missouri Baptist at Wednesday, October 3rd at 4:00 p.m. Both matches will be held at the Lindenwood tennis courts.
