Box Score The Lindenwood men's soccer team jumped out to an early lead against the visiting Maryville Saints on Tuesday night in St. Charles, and never looked back. The Lions scored three first half goals and rolled to a 4-0 win.
It took Lindenwood just 1:15 into the opening half to take the lead.
Azeem Razwan buried a rebound for his first goal of the season. For the next 30 minutes, neither team's offense mustered much of an attack.
In the 34
th minute, the Lions offense woke up.
Alfredo Paez sent a rocket into the upper left hand corner to give the home team a 2-0 lead. Just two minutes later,
Andre Hayne capped off the scoring in the first half with his first goal of the year.
The second half started almost as quickly as the first. Hayne scored his second goal of the game, three minutes in to help the Lions to a commanding 4-0 advantage. For the final 35 minutes Lindenwood settled in on defense and shutout the Saints.
Fermin Hughes started in the net for the Lions and stopped all three shots that he faced. He was replaced by
Jonathan Newkirk with just over 17 minutes to play. Newkirk finished off the shutout stopping the only shot he saw.
With the win the Lions improve their record to 1-1-1. Up next for Lindenwood is a home game on Saturday afternoon against Christian Brothers.
