Box Score The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team got off to a slow start in its first game of 2013 and the Lady Lions fell to Minnesota State on Tuesday evening by a 6-1 score at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.
In the first 30 minutes of the game, the Mavericks scored four times for a commanding lead. The Lady Lions picked up their play for the final 30 minutes, including scoring their lone goal of the game at the 13:10 mark of the second period.
Alyssa West received a pass along the left boards and took it in for the goal.
Rachel Weich and
Chloe Williams each were credited with an assist on the goal.
That goal was West's only shot on goal but she had several other good scoring chances, including a shot that hit the post in the third period.
Kendra Broad had a team-high five shots on goal and
Nicole Hensley made 25 saves in goal.
Shots were fairly even in the contest with Minnesota State finishing with a 31-27 advantage. The Mavericks scored on their only power-play opportunity, while Lindenwood was 0-for-four in the game on the power play.
Lindenwood and Minnesota State will finish off its series on Wednesday afternoon with a 2 p.m. game in Wentzville.
