Lady Lions Earn First Conference Victory Against Central Oklahoma

Box Score The Lindenwood women's basketball team earned its first MIAA victory on Saturday afternoon against the Central Oklahoma Bronchos. The Lady Lions won by a score of 81-77 at Hyland Arena.

Led by Julie Hlinak's 23 points, the Lady Lions took the final lead at 8:06 left in the game on a lay-up by Marissa Lehnig.

After falling behind 0-4 early, Lindenwood went on a 20-7 run halfway through the first half. Meagan Hittle hit a lay-up just under seven minutes into the game to give Lindenwood a nine-point lead.

Central Oklahoma answered back, cutting the Lindenwood lead to just one in a minute and a half of play. Both teams would bounce the lead back-and-forth before Central Oklahoma took the final lead of the half with 5:29 left.

Both teams struggled out of the locker rooms as almost four minutes passed before either team found the basket. Central Oklahoma increased its three-point half time lead to six on numerous occasions before a spark by the Lady Lions made the game exciting.

Down two just before the 12 minute mark, freshman Emily Alfrey nailed a three-pointer to put the Lady Lions up one. In that run, the Lady Lions got up by as many as five before Central Oklahoma brought the game back to a tie. There would be two more ties and two more lead changes before Lindenwood sealed the lead for good.

Along with Hlinak, Caroline Bourlioux, Lehnig and Sarah Schnieders all scored double-digit points. Schnieders recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Lindenwood outrebounded Central Oklahoma 48-42 and won the turnover battle 19-21. The Lady Lions also outscored Central Oklahoma in the paint, 36-28.

With the win, the Lady Lions improve to 4-9 overall and 1-4 in MIAA play. Lindenwood will travel on Wednesday to Missouri Western. Tip time in St. Joseph, Mo. is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
