Lions Start Slow But Finish Strong Against Lincoln

Box Score After a slow start the Lindenwood men's basketball team rolled to a 69-50 win over the Lincoln Blue Tigers on Saturday afternoon in St. Charles.

The Blue Tigers started the game on a 12-4 run in the first seven minutes to gain the early lead. The Lincoln lead would stretch to as high as 11 in opening 20 minutes. Trailing by seven with 2:29 to go in the first half, the Lions closed on 6-2 run to close the gap to three at the buzzer.

The second half started with Lincoln scoring the first two points then the Lions putting together five straight points to tie the score at 31. Just two minutes later, Lindenwood took the lead for the first time in the game on a three-pointer by Darris Smith. The Lions never surrendered that advantage back to Lincoln and went on to their 11th win of the season.

Lindenwood was led by Alex Bazzell who scored a game-high 20 points. Tyler Ressel chipped in with 13 points and Smith added 10. Richie Thompson led the team in rebounds with 11 and Brett Thompson had 10 rebounds.

The Lions dominated the glass outrebounding the Blue Tigers 52-27 including 14-9 on the offensive glass. Lindenwood shot 39 percent from the field and held Lincoln to just 30 percent shooting.

The win improves the Lions to 11-4 on the season and 4-3 in MIAA play. Lindenwood will be back on its home court Thursday night against Fort Hays State.
