Lady Lions Fall To Southwest Baptist On Thursday

Box Score The Lindenwood women's basketball team fell on Thursday night to Southwest Baptist by a score of 69-62 as it began the second half of its conference schedule.

Going three-for-five from the floor and shooting a perfect four-for-four from the line, freshman Jenny Rocha recorded a career-high 10 points for the Lady Lions.

Lindenwood struggled out of the gates as Southwest Baptist jumped out to an early 7-2 lead. Slowly through the middle of the first half, the Lady Lions regained control and tied the game at 15-all after a pair of Rocha free throws. Lindenwood never took control of the lead and went into the locker rooms down three after a jumper with six seconds left by Caroline Bourlioux.

The Bearcats increased their halftime lead to as many as 11 just five minutes into the second half. Lindenwood then sparked a 23-12 run after a jumper by Bourlioux that would tie the game up once again with just less than three minutes remaining in the game. A lay-up by Tori Kuhn at the 2:13 mark forced the final tie before Southwest Baptist finished the game on a 12-5 run.

In the second half, Southwest Baptist made 10 more trips to the free-throw line and converted on two more three-pointers to give them the seven-point edge to close out the contest.

Lindenwood recorded 12 turnovers, the least amount by the team this season. Lindenwood finished the game shooting 38 percent from the floor and just 18 percent from beyond the arc. Southwest Baptist only connected on 26 percent from beyond the arc, but as a team shot 42 percent from the floor.

Along with Rocha, three other members of the Lindenwood squad posted double-digit points for the evening. Kuhn led the attack with 13 while Sarah Schnieders and Bourlioux added 12 and 10, respectively.

Lindenwood falls to 4-14 overall and 1-9 in the MIAA. The Lady Lions will host Central Missouri on Saturday at Hyland Arena. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
