Women's Hockey Falls Behind Early on Friday

The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team fell behind by a large margin early in Friday night's game against Minnesota State and could not get back into it. The Lady Lions lost by a score of 7-1.

The Mavericks scored four power-play goals in the first period and led 5-1 after 20 minutes of play. Three of those goals came in a 30-second span starting with Lindenwood getting two skaters in the penalty box.

Kendra Broad scored Lindenwood's only goal of the game late in the first period. With the Lady Lions on the power play, she stole the puck in Minnesota State's end and was able to finish. Sarah McGall saw her first collegiate action in goal after coming in as a backup. She played over 45 minutes and made 23 saves, while allowing three goals.

Minnesota State finished with a 37-31 edge in shots. It was four-of-six on the power play and also scored a shorthanded goal. The Lady Lions were just one-of-eight with a man advantage.

Lindenwood and Minnesota State will conclude their series on Saturday afternoon at noon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.
