Box Score The No. 7 Lindenwood men's soccer team beat No. 24 Northeastern State 2-1 on Thursday night in Tahlequah, Okla. in a huge MIAA conference matchup. The win keeps the Lions on top of the MIAA standings with just three conference games left.
Lindenwood cracked the scoreboard first in the 15
th minute when Ignacio Romero scored his fifth goal of the season. That would be the only scoring in the first 45 minutes.
The second half started quickly for the Lions when
Aris Nukic scored his ninth goal of the season to give the visitors a two goal lead.
Northeastern State did not go down easily though. The Riverhawks scored in the 52
nd minute to get within one. For the final 30 minutes of the contest, the Lions defense went on lockdown mode. Northeastern took four shots but only two were on goal and Lindenwood held on for the win.
Fermin Hughes started in net once again for the Lions and stopped all but one of the Riverhawks eight shots on goal.
With the win Lindenwood improved its overall record to 11-0-1 and 4-0-1 in MIAA play. The Lions will travel to Searcy, Ark. on Oct. 17 for a contest against Harding.
