Women's Volleyball Edges Central Oklahoma in Close Match

Box Score The Lindenwood women's volleyball team edged the Central Oklahoma Bronchos 3-2 on Friday evening in Edmond, Oklahoma.

Kailene Young had 19 kills for Lindenwood while Kayla Guyot contributed 18 of her own. Emma Brydels had another solid outing with 54 assists for the Lady Lions.

Lindenwood and Central Oklahoma went neck and neck in set one to start off the match. Neither squad could break away and take a commanding lead at any point in the match. However, with a few clutch plays with the Lady Lions, Lindenwood took set one 25-23.

Both teams remained close in set two. Lindenwood had the opportunity to put the second set away with a 24-22 lead. The Lady Lions could not capitalize on the opportunity though as the Bronchos caught fire and executed on some key plays to edge Lindenwood 27-25.

After a stunning set two victory by Central Oklahoma, the Bronchos hoped to break the match wide open with a victory in set three. Lindenwood refused to let this happen though by controlling most of the set. After Lindenwood led 18-13, Central Oklahoma came storming back again by scoring four straight points to reduce Lindenwood's led to 18-17. However, the Lady Lions kept the Bronchos at bay. Lindenwood executed the rest of the way and took set three 25-22.

With a 2-1 match lead and an 18-13 set four lead against Central Oklahoma, it looked like Lindenwood was going to finish off the Bronchos with a 3-1 victory. However, the Lady Lions stumbled and Central Oklahoma took advantage. Lindenwood let the Bronchos tie the game at 22 each. Shortly after Central Oklahoma put on the gas and took set four 25-23.

Neither squad could separate themselves in the match's final set as both teams traded scores constantly. With the match coming down to the wire and the score tied at 10 each, Lindenwood got hot. With a 14-12 lead, Guyot got the final kill to take the set 15-12 and match 3-2.

The Lady Lions return to action tomorrow for a 3 p.m. match at Pittsburg State.
