The Lindenwood women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to Pittsburg State Saturday afternoon 11-25, 22-25, 18-25.
The loss dropped the Lady Lions to 8-15 overall and 5-4 in MIAA play this season.
Kayla Guyot was a bright spot for the team where she led the team in kills with a total of eight in the match.
The first set was an onslaught from the home team where they score eight straight points to make the score 2-10 following the run. Another multiple point sequence put the lead for Pittsburg State into double digits and led to the first set loss for the Lady Lions.
In the second set, the Gorillas came with another quick run to jump out to a lead of 10-4, however Lindenwood would battle back making the set neck-and-neck throughout the remainder of it.
The Lady Lions went on a run of their own to tie it up at 12-12 forcing the home team to call a timeout to slow the momentum. Anna Reichert's service aces and Shannon Doyle's kills led the way for the Lindenwood run. Reichert had three aces in the second set alone
Unfortunately, the home team came out of the timeout determined. They score a series of points which were then answered by Lindenwood. This set went back and forth for the next stretch of points. Emma Brydels set several assists to keep the Lady Lions within striking distance.
The Gorillas pulled away for a three point lead until Lindenwood battled back pushing the deficit to only one. However, Pitt State at 23-22 would score the next two points following an error to win.
Lindenwood wasn't able to turn it around in the third set after they got down early. Pitt State pulled away and won the set 18-25 for a three set sweep.
Next up for Lindenwood is on the road for the fourth straight match. They will face Northwest Missouri Nov. 1.
