Lindenwood Notes
- Eager to erase the memory of last season's 4-22 record, the Lady Lions overwhelmed Arkansas-Monticello with an 11-0 run to start Saturday's season opener. Lindenwood coach
Tony Francis said he was impressed with the Lady Lions transition game as they built the lead. The Cotton Blossoms scored the next 11 points to tie the game.
- Nine Lindenwood players scored and four reached double digits. Senior
Marissa Lehnig led the Lady Lions with 16 points. Lehnig scored more than 10 points 10 times last season. Senior
Caroline Bourlioux had 14 points and pulled down seven rebounds, sophomore
Jenny Rocha had 10 points and four assists, and junior
Morgan Johnson had 10 points and six rebounds.
- The loss to the Blossoms was the Lady Lions tenth straight on the road.
- Bourlioux, Rocha and sophomore
Dru Haertling each logged 30 or more minutes Saturday. Before the season began, Francis said he'd use nine players in most games, and 10 players saw at least six minutes Saturday.
- The Lady Lions held their own on the boards against the Blossoms, who won the rebounding battle 30-29. Bourlioux led the Lady Lions with seven rebounds and Johnson had six.
- After road games in Arkansas and Tennessee, the Lady Lions travel closer to home when they play at the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday. The Lady Lions return to Hyland Arena for their home opener Nov. 19 against McKendree (Ill.).
- Each time the Lady Lions would battle back from a deficit in the second half, the Blossoms would stymie it with a three-point basket. After the game, Francis said the Blossoms guards became more aggressive offensively in the second half and the Lady Lions perimeter defense wasn't up to the task of stopping them.
- Around the MIAA, Emporia State is off to a 3-0 start. Emporia State was ranked No. 1 in the MIAA Preseason Coaches Poll.
- Blossoms sophomore guard Tamia Grady started sinking three-point baskets in the second half for the Blossoms, and her three-pointer with 17:41 left in the game lifted them to a 38-37 lead. Haertling followed a Hlinak jumper with a basket to give the Lady Lions a 43-42 lead. It would be their last as Grady sank another three-pointer and finished with 26 points, five rebounds and four assists.
