Women's Volleyball Keeps MIAA Tournament Hopes Alive

The Lindenwood women's volleyball team kept its MIAA Tournament hopes alive on Tuesday night at Hyland Arena with a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over Missouri Southern.

Megan Dillon led Lindenwood with 14 kills while Kayla Guyot contributed 12 of her own. Emma Brydels had another solid game in the assists column by collecting 39 for the Lady Lions.

Lindenwood got off to a quick start as they took an early 6-1 lead. The Lady Lions continued to dominate the set. With a 24-16 lead over Missouri Southern, Kayla Guyot scored Lindenwood's final point with a kill to give the Lady Lions a 25-16 victory.

Neither squad could take a commanding lead in set two. The score was tied a total of ten times and the lead changed hands four times. Lindenwood came close to victory after taking a 24-23 lead. However, the Lady Lions came up just short. Missouri Southern scored three straight to take the set 26-24 and tie the match score 1-1.

Missouri Southern took this momentum into set four as it dominated Lindenwood. The Lady Lions dug themselves into a hole by allowing Missouri Southern to take an 18-7 lead. The deficit was too much for Lindenwood to overcome and Missouri Southern went on to win set three 25-17

Down but not discouraged, Lindenwood came storming back against Missouri Southern in set four. Megan Dillon got things going early by scoring two straight kills to give Lindenwood an early 2-0 lead. The Lady Lions continued to heat up and soon enough were winning 15-3. Missouri Southern rallied and scored five straight to cut Lindenwood's lead to 15-8. The Lady Lions caught fire again though and went on a 10-6 run to win the set 25-14 and tie the match score 2-2.

With the stakes being high in set five, neither squad could separate from the other with a commanding lead throughout the set. Lindenwood took a 10-6 lead but shortly after Missouri Southern reduced the Lady Lion's lead to just one at 11-10. However, Lindenwood slammed the door on Missouri Southern and went on a final 4-2 run to take the set 15-12 and match 3-2.

Lindenwood returns to action Friday evening when it hosts nationally-ranked Washburn at 7 p.m.
