Women's Volleyball Defeated By Washburn

The Lindenwood women's volleyball team lost to the Washburn Ichabods Friday evening at Hyland Arena by a score of 3-1.
Kailene Young led the Lady Lions with 15 kills while Kayla Guyot and Aleah Rosenau each contributed 11 of their own. Emma Brydels had a team-high 39 assists, Allison Waldvogel had 24 digs, and Kayla Guyot and Sarah Makowski each had four blocks.

Washburn got things going early against Lindenwood by jumping out to a 5-0 lead. Lindenwood chipped away at the Ichabods lead by getting three straight points to reduce Washburn's lead to 5-3. Washburn widened their lead again and shortly after the Ichabods were up 17-11. However, Lindenwood came storming back one more time. The Lady Lions went on a 13-7 run and tied the set 24-24. Lindenwood could not capitalize on the opportunity though. The Ichabods scored two final points to take the first set 26-24.

The score remained close throughout set two for both squads. There were 4 lead changes and 11 ties in the set. However, Lindenwood looked to be putting the set away when it took a 24-20 lead before the Ichabods scored four straight points and tied the score 24-24. The Lady Lions bent but did not break though, and with a few key points managed to close out the set with a 27-25 victory.

After a shaky set two, Washburn wasted no time in regaining the lead and momentum against Lindenwood. The Lady Lions hung with the Ichabods early on but failed to keep up in the second half of the set as Washburn slowly pulled away and took a 21-13 lead. The Ichabods would go on to win the set against Lindenwood 25-16.

Washburn dominated the Lady Lions again throughout set four. The Ichabods led by as many as 12 at one point by taking a 23-11 lead. Lindenwood scored three straight though to make the score 23-14 before a Washburn timeout. The Ichabods regrouped and finished off Lindenwood with a 25-14 victory.

Lindenwood returns to action tomorrow for the final home match of the season and Senior Day at 2 p.m. against Emporia State.
