Lions Suffer First Loss of the Season in Super Regional Final

Box Score The No. 1 Lindenwood men's soccer team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday afternoon, ending one of the best seasons in school history. The Lions fell to the Rockhurst Hawks 1-0 in the Super Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament in Kansas City, Mo.

Both teams started off the game playing a very defensive minded game. It wasn't until the 15th minute when the game saw its saw its first shot on goal.

There wasn't another shot on goal until the 20th minute when Paolo Scoppola ripped a shot from just inside the box that caromed of the far post then off the near post and ended up in the back of the net.

Neither team's offense produced much in the final 35 minutes of the first half and the game headed into the break with the home team leading 1-0.

At the start of the second half the Hawks just sunk back into a defensive shell and made it tough on the Lions to produce the game tying goal. Lindenwood had just a couple of good scoring chances but could not put the ball in the back of the net. The home team held on for the win and move onto the NCAA Tournament Final Four.

The Lions outshot the Hawks 11-6 but shots on goal favored the home team 4-3. Fermin Hughes started in the net for Lindenwood and gave up just one goal.

The loss ended the Lions season with a record of 18-1-3. The season was exceptionally special for the program as it won its second straight MIAA Conference regular season and tournament championship while also winning a regional championship in only its second year competing in the NCAA.
