Women's Hockey Loses Conference Opener

Box Score postgame quotes (video)

The Lindenwood women's hockey team fell in its conference opener on Friday night at the Lindenwood Ice Arena by a 3-0 score to RIT.

It took just over ten minutes for RIT to turn a tight game into a 3-0 victory. After both teams were scoreless for the first 40 minutes, the Tigers got onto the scoreboard just 37 seconds into the third period with a power-play goal. RIT then sealed the game with two goals within 15 seconds midway through the period.

Lindenwood lost a chance to win due to a struggling power play. The Lady Lions had nine power plays in the game and could not get the puck into the net. Lindenwood had 12:30 of play with a man advantage, including over eight minutes in the third period. RIT, meanwhile, was two-for-six with an extra person on the ice.

Prior to the game, four Lady Lions received their awards for being named the 2012-13 CHA Student-Athletes of the Year. The players honored by CHA commissioner Robert M. DeGregorio were Kendra Broad, Nicole Hensley, Alison Wickenheiser (pictured), and Chelsea Witwicke. Former Lindenwood skater Amy Stober also earned the honor but was not in attendance after graduating after last season.

Lindenwood and RIT conclude their series tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. in Wentzville, Mo.
