Lindenwood's women's hockey team and RIT skated to a 1-1 tie for the second time in three meetings this season. The latest tie game came on Friday night at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.
Strong goaltending and penalty killing were the main themes on the night. Lindenwood's
Nicole Hensley stopped 37 of 38 shots, while RIT's goalie Ali Binnington made 29 of 30 saves. The two teams combined to go just two-for-13 on the power play.
Both teams did score the first time that they went on the power play. Lindenwood struck first midway through the first period when
Katie Erickson blasted a goal from near the blue line after receiving a pass from
Kendra Broad. The goal came with just four seconds remaining on the power play. RIT answered just over four minutes later when it scored 29 seconds into its first power play of the game.
Hensley and Binnington did not allow another goal for the final 55:28 of the game. Lindenwood outshot RIT in the first period, but the Tigers held a 24-10 edge in periods two and three. In overtime, the Lady Lions took control of the action but could not convert several good scoring chances.
After allowing the power-play goal, the Lady Lions had to kill off six more penalties and were shorthanded for over 11 minutes. RIT killed off over nine minutes of power plays as Lindenwood had five more chances after its first goal.
Lindenwood and RIT will conclude their regular season CHA matchups on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Lindenwood Ice Arena.
