Men's Basketball Back on the Road to Take on Lincoln


• The Lindenwood Lions will start their final road trip of the season on Wednesday night in Jefferson City, Mo. against the Lincoln Blue Tigers.

• Lindenwood is coming off a 81-71 win over the Truman State Bulldogs. The Lions have a record of 7-4 away from St. Charles.
 
• Lincoln enters the game against the Lions with a record of 3-23 overall and 2-14 in MIAA play. The Blue Tigers have lost nine straight games.

• The Lions and the Blue Tigers have met four times and Lindenwood leads the series 3-1.

Lindenwood Game Notes

• The Lions are third in the MIAA in field goal percentage with a mark of .472. There is three individuals in the top 10. Brett Thompson is fourth at 60 percent, Richie Thompson is seventh at 55 percent, and Cody Sorenson is ninth at 54 percent.

• Not only are the Lions fourth in the conference in field goal percentage they are tops in three other categories. The team is first in scoring (78.3), rebounding margin (+6.9), and defensive rebounds a game (27.1).

• This season's roster consists of five seniors and those seniors are leading the way. The group is scoring 69 percent of the team's average points per game.

• The Lions have made at least five threes in every game but three this season. The team has made double digit threes four games this season. The season high in made threes was 12 against William Woods.

• When the Lions score at least 80 points the team is 10-0 and when the team scores over 70 the team is 13-4.

Alex Bazzell has been the Lions go to scorer so far this season. He has led the team in scoring in 13-of-24 games.

• Senior Cody Sorenson has been strong from behind the three-point line. He has made at least two threes in every game but eight. His high of the season was against Central Oklahoma when he made five.

• Lindenwood has shot 223 more free throws than its opponents. When the team shoots more free throws than its opponents, the team is 16-4. The Lions have made at least 10 free throws in every game but one. 

• The Lions have outrebounded its opponents this season by a 927-762 margin. When the team grabs more rebounds it is 16-2.

Alex Bazzell has been a frequent visitor to the free-throw line. He has 242 attempts and has made 204. His makes and attempts are the most in all Division I and II.

• Over the past two seasons, the Lions have seen overtime numerous times. In 2011-12, the team played three overtime games. The team has already played in three over time games. The Lions have a 2-4 record in overtime since last season.

• Lindenwood has outscored its opponents in the second half in all but seven games.

• Lindenwood has outscored its opponents in both the first half and the second half this season. But the second half has been the Lions best. The team has outscored its opponents 990-858 in the final 20 minutes.

• If the Lions hold their opponents to 69 points or less the team is 11-2. If the opposition scores more than 70 the team is 7-4.

• Earlier this season, Bazzell scored his 1,000 career point as a Lindenwood Lion. He becomes the ninth Lion in program history to reach the milestone.

• The Hyland Arena floor has been very good to the Lions since Brad Soderberg took over. In his first four seasons, Lindenwood is 50-8 at home.  

• For the first time in school history the Lions have had three consecutive 20 win seasons. All three seasons have been under the watchful eye of Coach Soderberg.

Lincoln Notes

• The Lincoln Blue Tigers enter the contest with a record of 3-23 overall and 2-14 record in MIAA play. The Blue Tigers are coming off a 81-74 loss over Truman State. Lincoln is 1-10 overall at home.

• As a team Lincoln is averaging 69.1 points a game on offense and is surrendering 80.0 points on the defensive side of the floor. The Blue Tigers are shooting 41 percent from the field and 32 percent from behind the three-point line.

• Lincoln is led by Cedric Ridle who scores 21.2 points a game. Charles Cole is second on the team with 15.1 points and leads the team in rebounds with 7.4.

• John Redmond is the head coach of Lincoln and is in his 4th season at the helm.

Last Meeting

After a slow start the Lindenwood men's basketball team rolled to a 69-50 win over the Lincoln Blue Tigers.The Blue Tigers started the game on a 12-4 run in the first seven minutes to gain the early lead. The Lincoln lead would stretch to as high as 11 in opening 20 minutes. Trailing by seven with 2:29 to go in the first half, the Lions closed on 6-2 run to close the gap to three at the buzzer. The second half started with Lincoln scoring the first two points then the Lions putting together five straight points to tie the score at 31. Lindenwood was led by Alex Bazzell who scored a game-high 20 points. Tyler Ressel chipped in with 13 points and Smith added 10.
