Box Score The Lindenwood women's hockey team won in overtime at Syracuse on Tuesday night. The Lady Lions kept their hopes alive to host a first-round CHA Tournament series with a 2-1 victory over the Orange.
Lindenwood took a 1-0 lead with a goal in the final minute of the first period.
Allysson Arcibal had the even-strength goal with assists from
Alyssa West and
Alison Wickenheiser.
The Lady Lions held on to that lead for over 30 minutes, until Syracuse tied the game at the 10:09 mark of the third period. The Orange appeared to have all the momentum after taking four shots in the next two minutes, but
Nicole Hensley stopped every attempt. Syracuse went on the power play at the 12:05 mark, but the Orange took a too many players on the ice penalty just 53 seconds later. That penalty was the turning point in evening up the play and both teams went scoreless for the rest of regulation.
In overtime, Lindenwood took control of the action with several shots in the first minute. That pressure paid off 1:05 into overtime when
Caitlyn Post scored the game-winner.
Kendra Broad and
Lyndsay Kirkham assisted on the score.
Hensley had another outstanding game in goal. She made 42 saves and had a .977 save percentage. Nineteen of those saves came in the third period.
Syracuse held a 43-36 shots advantage in the game. Neither team had a power-play goal as Lindenwood was 0-for-three and Syracuse went 0-for-four.
Lindenwood ends the regular season with a contest on Wednesday evening against Syracuse. With a win, the Lions will host Robert Morris in the first-round of the CHA Tournament. With a loss or tie, Lindenwood will travel to Robert Morris for the postseason series.
