Women's Basketball Falls Against Fellow MIAA Newcomer On Thursday

Box Score Three members of the Lindenwood women's basketball team scored double-digit points as it fell to Northeastern State 87-50 on Thursday evening.

Julie Hlinak led the Lady Lions with 17 points while Marissa Lehnig and Meagan Hittle added 13 and 12, respectively.

Lindenwood's lone lead of the evening came in the first minute of the contest as Hlinak drained a three-pointer with the assist from Lehnig. Northeastern State promptly went on a 9-2 run over the course of the next three minutes to build its lead up to six.

The Lady Lions cut the RiverHawk lead to one 14:13 mark after a jumper by Lehnig, but that would be as close as they would come. Northeastern State finished the half up 22 points after Hittle cut the 25-point RiverHawk lead with a buzzer beating three-pointer.

Lindenwood came out of the locker rooms and cut the Northeastern State to 18 before the RiverHawks regained control of the game. The Lady Lions did force eight RiverHawk turnovers compared to just five of their own.

Hlinak also led the Lady Lions with six rebounds. In the contest, Lindenwood scored only five points off the bench and shot just 27 percent from the floor.

Lindenwood falls to 4-16 on the season with a 1-11 mark in the MIAA. The Lady Lions continue their road trip by traveling to Emporia State for a game on Saturday. Tip time in Emporia is set for 1:30 p.m.
