Box Score The Lindenwood men's basketball team had its five-game road winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon by the Emporia State Hornets. The Lions could not overcome a tough day shooting and fell 61-52.
The game started with Lindenwood leading for most of the first half but the lead never got any higher than five. At the four minute mark the Hornets took the lead by two and ended the first half leading by that number.
The second half started with Emporia State extending the lead to four via a dunk by Paul Bunch. With the crowd very much alive and all the momentum against them, the Lions persevered and quickly took the lead back after a 6-0 run.
As quickly as Lindenwood went on a 6-0 run the Hornets answered with a 19-2 run to take a game-high 15-point lead with 8:04 to play.
Even though the Lions were trailing by 15 the team did not give up. Lindenwood trimmed the lead to six on two separate occasions. The last was at the 2:52 mark when
Tyler Ressel hit a crucial three pointer.
On Emporia's ensuing possession the Lions defense forced a missed three but gave up a back breaking offensive rebound. To add insult to injury
Brett Thompson was called for a foul and the Hornets were able to extend their lead to seven.
Lindenwood went two-for-seven shooting in the final 90 seconds which put a hault to the Lions comeback attempt.
Alex Bazzell led the way for the Lions scoring 19 points. Ressel,
Cody Sorenson, and
Richie Thompson each chipped in with nine.
Brett Thompson led the team in rebounds with six.
LIndenwood shot just 32 percent from the field and 18 percent from behind the arc. Emporia State dominated the rebounding battle winning 39-28. The Lions turned the ball over 15 times compared the Hornets 12.
The loss drops LIndenwood's record to 15-6 overall and 8-5 in conference play. Up next for the Lions is a road game against Central Missouri on Wednesday night.
