The Lady Lions were not able to capitalize on this though as Missouri Western regained momentum. The Griffons went up 23-15 before Lindenwood got things going late. However, the late rally by the Lady Lions was not enough, as they fell to Missouri Western 25-19.

Neither team could separate themselves in the second set as the lead went back and forth. Lindenwood was up 25-24 trying to close out the set when the Golden Griffons battled back to take a 27-26 lead. With their backs against the wall, Shannon Doyle came up big for Lindenwood with a key block to tie Missouri Western 27-27. The Lady Lions were not going to let the chance for victory get away this time around as they went on to win the set 29-27.

Lindenwood was able to build off their stunning victory in set two, controlling all of set three and never losing the lead. Key plays for the Lady Lions kept Missouri Western at bay throughout the set. With the lead only at 8-7 and Missouri Western on the move, Sarah Makowski hit a soft ace in-between the front and back line of the Golden Griffons to give the Lady Lions some breathing room. Lindenwood had momentum on their side as they bent but did not break in set three. The Lady Lions closed out the set with a 25-19 win and leading Missouri Western 2-1 in the match.

Lindenwood was clicking offensively again in set number four, taking an early 8-3 lead. Missouri Western put the petal to the floor this time though as they tied the set at 10 a piece. The Griffons did not slow down after this, taking the match 25-20 after some costly errors by the Lady Lions.

The match's fifth set went back and forth with four ties. After an early lead by Lindenwood, Missouri Western capitalized on the 7-7 tie by dominating the Lady Lions the rest of the way. The Golden Griffons went on to win the set by a score of 15-10 and the match 3-2.
