Lions Have Worst Shooting Night of the Season and Fall to Missouri Southern

Box Score A poor shooting night and a long run in the middle of the game spelled doom for the Lindenwood Lions against the Missouri Southern Lions on Wednesday night.  Lindenwood fell 70-50 on in Joplin, Mo. Lindenwood shot a season-low 35 percent from the field.

The contest started with the home team jumping out to a 9-4 lead. Michael Boos ended the Missouri Southern run with a three followed up by an Aaron Ramirez three and layup to give Lindenwood the lead. The Lions continued their run and pushed the lead up to 12 with just over six minutes to play.

Unfortunately, for Lindenwood the lead would disappear as quickly it gained it. The Lions would make no field goals the final six minutes and Missouri Southern closed the first half on a 15-1 run and took the lead into the half. Nine of the Missouri Southern 15 points in the run came from the free throw line.

The halftime break did not slow down Missouri Southern. The home team started the half on a 20-6 run which extended the lead up to 15 with eight minutes to play. Starting at the six minute mark of the first half until the eight minute mark of the second half Missouri Southern went on a 30-5 run.

Missouri Southern shot 44 percent from the field and took 13 more free throws than Lindenwood. Missouri Southern also outrebounded the Lions 39-32, and the visitors turned the ball over 19 times which tied a season-high.

Boos led the way for the Lions scoring 11 points. Darris Smith was the only other Lion to score in double figures with 10.

The loss drops the Lions to 8-10 overall and 3-5 in MIAA play. Lindenwood will have a week off until next Wednesday when the Lions return home to take on Southwest Baptist.
