Box Score Two of the hottest shooting women's basketball teams in the MIAA met in Hays, Kan. Thursday night.
Going into the game, Lindenwood led the conference in field goal percentage (.465), while host Fort Hays State led in points per game (85.6). The Tigers are ninth in the country in scoring.
For the second time this week, the Lady Lions started slowly against one of the top teams in the MIAA and lost 99-76 to the Tigers. The Lady Lions, 8-6 overall, 3-4 in the MIAA, are 0-3 in 2014. The Tigers improved to 10-2, 4-2.
After the Tigers turned the ball over on their final possession, the Lady Lions avoided allowing 100 points in a game for the first time since Nov. 15, 2008.
Junior center Kate Lehman became just the second player in Fort Hays State history to record a triple-double. Lehman finished with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 blocked shots. She earned the triple-double with her 10th blocked shot against Lindenwood guard
Jenny Rocha with fewer than 3 minutes left in the game. Lehman is the MIAA leader in blocks and rebounds.
Sophomore guard Chelsea Mason led all scorers with 25 points and made three three-point baskets for the Tigers. Four Tigers finished in double-figure scoring.
Freshman guard
Kassidy Gengenbacher scored a team-high 20 points for the Lady Lions. It's the fourth time this season Gengenbacher has scored 20 or more points. She leads the Lady Lions in scoring with 14 points per game.
Junior guard
Julie Hlinak had been held scoreless in the Lady Lions last two games, but she made 7 of 11 shots and finished with 18 points against the Tigers. Hlinak grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Senior forward
Caroline Bourlioux followed Monday's 17-point effort against MIAA-leading Emporia State with 13 points against the Tigers. Bourlioux led the Lady Lions with five assists.
Freshman forward
Bre Zanders scored a season-high eight points and had five rebounds before fouling out.
The Lady Lions are off until they travel to Joplin, Mo. on Jan. 15 to play MIAA rival Missouri Southern.
