Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey Survives Late Charge By Syracuse In A 2-1 Victory

The Lindenwood women's hockey team had to survive a nail-biting finish on Saturday afternoon at the Lindenwood Ice Arena, but it came away with a CHA victory over Syracuse by a 2-1 score.

Lindenwood led 2-0 heading into the final period, but Syracuse got within one with a goal at the 8:33 mark of the third period. Just 36 seconds later, the Orange went on the power play, but Lindenwood was able to kill it by allowing just one shot on goal.

Syracuse continued to pressure the Lady Lions, getting ten shots on goal off the rest of the game, including two after pulling its goalie for the final 1:10. That shot total does not include a shot by Melissa Piacentini that hit the post with under a minute to play. Hensley and the Lady Lions were able to hold on though and split their third straight CHA series.

The Lady Lions had a 2-0 lead after goals by Shara Jasper and Brooke Peden. Jasper's goal came just 4:27 into the game when she had a breakout and was able to put it past the Syracuse goal. Peden's goal came from near the blue line just 53 seconds into the second period. Saville Pickar and Peden assisted on Jasper's goal, and Alyssa West and Lyndsay Kirkham recorded assists on Peden's goal.

Hensley finished the game with 32 saves. Jordyn Constance had a big afternoon on defense with five blocks, and Jasper led the team with five shots on goal.

Lindenwood concludes its first half of league action next weekend with a two-game series at nationally-ranked Mercyhurst.
