Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Kassidy Gengenbacher Scores 28 Points Against SEC Missouri

The Lindenwood women's basketball team traveled to SEC country on Wednesday night for an exhibition game against the Missouri Tigers. The Lady Lions outscored the Tigers by 12 points in the second half, but Mizzou held on for a 67-61 win.

Missouri shot 50 percent from the field in the first half and connected on seven-of-14 three-point attempts. That hot shooting help the Tigers hold a 47-29 advantage at half.

In the second half, Lindenwood began to play better. Defensively, it held Missouri to just 23.3 percent shooting in the second half, and forced 10 turnovers. The Lady Lions also allowed just one three-pointer. The improved defensive effort eventually allowed Lindenwood to cut the lead to five points with 2:10 left in the game. The Lady Lions couldn't get closer though as the team missed several three-pointers in the final minute.

Kassidy Gengenbacher scored nearly half of Lindenwood's points. The 2014 MIAA Freshman of the Year hit 10-of-21 field goals and finished with 28 points. Lindenwood outscored Missouri by five points while Gengenbacher was on the court.

Beth Maenpaa added nine points for Lindenwood, followed by Vanessa Zailo with six. Zailo also grabbed 15 rebounds and had one block and steals. Eight of the nine players who saw action for Lindenwood scored at least one field goal at the Hearnes Center.

Lindenwood starts play for real on Nov. 14 with a 7 p.m. home game against Arkansas-Monticello.
