The Lindenwood men's soccer team was searching for its third straight MIAA Tournament Championship on Saturday afternoon in Olathe, Kan. After taking the early lead, the Lions were unable to hold on and fell to No. 14 Northeastern State 2-1.
Andre Hayne got the scoring going for Lindenwood in the 18
th minute off a corner kick. The Lions would hold that 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Unfortunately, for the Lions the lead did not last long in the second half. Lindenwood was called for a penalty inside its own penalty area which gave Northeastern State a penalty kick. Jordan Schmoker did not pass up the golden opportunity and tied the score at one.
Schmoker then gave the Riverhawks the lead just 17 minutes later. The Lions could not get the equalizer late in the game and ended their season with a 2-1 loss.
Lindenwood started the season with practically a new roster and still made it to the MIAA Championship game. The season comes to an end with the Lions compiling a 10-7-3 record.
