Women's Hockey Loses Final Game Before Break

For the second straight day, the No. 7 Mercyhurst women's hockey used a big third period to defeat Lindenwood. On Saturday, the Lakers scored three unanswered goals in a 5-2 win.

The Lakers came out strong by taking a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Lindenwood bounced back though by tying the game in the second period. Katie Erickson scored the first goal and Jordyn Constance had a power-play goal to tie the contest.

Mercyhurst ruined Lindenwood's upset bid in the third period. The Lakers took just four shots on goal in the period, but they scored on three of them. All three goals came in the first 7:23 of the period.

Shara Jasper had two assists in the game for Lindenwood, and Lyndsay Kirkham and Alyssa West each had one. Rachel Weich had a +1 plus/minus for the game. Defensively, Katie Nokelby had five blocks, and Sarah McGall made 15 saves in goal.

Lindenwood ends the first half of CHA play with a 4-5-1 record, and it goes into its Christmas break with a 5-10-1 mark. The Lady Lions are off until a non-conference series on Jan. 2-3 against Bemidji State.
