Due to the weather, the Lindenwood vs. Lincoln women's basketball game has been moved to Thursday, Feb. 6, at 5:30 p.m.
Upcoming Contest
-The Lady Lions travel to Jeff City to try and break a two-game losing streak against Lincoln University which has lost 12 straight games. One year after qualifying for the MIAA Tournament, the Blue Tigers are mired in last place with a record of 0-12 in the conference. The Lady Lions are eighth in the MIAA with a 5-7 conference record.
-It's hard to find a bright spot on the Blue Tigers season. They're last in scoring with 57.8 points per game, last in field goal percentage (.355) and last in field goal defense (.434). That should suit the Lady Lions who are sixth in the MIAA in scoring with 73.7 points and second in field goal percentage (.456).
-Lindenwood hasn't scored more than 65 points in its last three games. Lincoln has struggled mightily on offense the past two games. After scoring a season-low 28 points against Missouri Western Jan. 29, Blue Tigers leading scorer Jennifer Rosado was 3 of 18 from the field in a 55-47 loss to Northwest Missouri Saturday.
Lindenwood Notes
-Despite losing their last two conference games to teams below them in the standings, the Lady Lions are still very much alive to receive one of the 12 seeds to the MIAA Tournament in March. At 5-7 in the MIAA, the Lady Lions still have seven conference games remaining which is the balance of their schedule.
-Too many times this season the Lady Lions have struggled in the first half. It's plain to see that in their scoring production where they've scored 100 more points in the second half (756) than they have in the first half (645). Their 65-62 loss to Missouri Western was a perfect example. The Lady Lions turned the ball over 17 times, leading to 20 points for the Griffins who led 38-20 at the half.
-The nadir of the Lady Lions season was perhaps when the Griffons led them 42-24 with 16:36 left. Then the Lady Lions started a remarkable comeback that had the game tied 51-51 with 4:38 left.
-The two teams played thrust and parry the rest of the game until the Griffons missed the second free throw with one second left. Senior
Marissa Lehnig grabbed the rebound for the Lady Lions but they didn't have time to get off a shot. Lehnig, third on the Lady Lions with 11.2 points per game, was shut out in the loss to Northwest Missouri and held to three points against Missouri Western. She's missed her last 10 three-point baskets and hasn't made one since Dec. 14.
-Senior
Caroline Bourlioux had eight points and eight rebounds against the Griffons. Bourlioux's next rebound will be the 500th of her four-year career at Lindenwood. She's second on the Lady Lions in scoring with 12.1 points.
-Against the Griffons, junior
Morgan Johnson played in the fewest minutes (13) she had in a game since playing seven minutes against Nebraska-Kearney Dec. 20. Johnson has 11 points in the last three games but still leads the MIAA in three-point shooting at .425.
-Sophomore
Dru Haertling has played in 31 minutes in each of the last two games. Haertling has made four three-point baskets and hasn't missed a free-throw attempt in the last three games.
-The Lady Lions have made 100 three-point baskets and allowed 110. The Lady Lions have grabbed 200 offensive rebounds to their opponents' 227.
-Sophomore
Jenny Rocha made 6 of 9 shots against Missouri Western and finished with 12 points. Rocha is seventh in the conference with 3.7 assists per game.
Last Time Out
-Missouri Western led the Lady Lions 42-24 with 16 minutes 36 seconds left in the game. But poor free-throw shooting by the Griffons and a furious rally by the Lady Lions turned the MIAA game into a slugfest that ended with the home team escaping 65-62.
-After beating Central Missouri, which led the conference at the time, the Lady Lions lost two games in three days to teams with a combined 4-16 conference record going into the week.
-Lindenwood freshman
Kassidy Gengenbacher was held scoreless in the first half. Gengenbacher entered the game averaging 14.6 points and was in the top 10 in conference scoring, but she finished with seven points, her lowest output since Nov. 16.
-Sophomore
Dru Haertling scored a season-high 18 points to lead the Lady Lions. Haertling made 6 of 11 shots from the field, was 2 of 2 from three-point range and made all four free-throw attempts.
