On senior night with 16 alumni in attendance the Lindenwood wrestling team defeated No. 6 Fort Hays 21-11 on Sunday afternoon.
Senior
Matt Katusin wrestled his final match in Hyland Arena and went out on a high note. The native of Omaha, Neb. defeated his opponent 7-6 to help put the Lions up 6-0 after
Marco Tamayo defeated No. 8 Adam Ludwin in a scrappy 11-4 decision in the 125 weight class.
Fort Hays cut the lead in half after No. 5 C.J. Napier defeated
Kyle Webb in a 9-3 decision.
Terrel Wilbourn picked up a late takedown to pick up two points and won his match 5-4.
Luke Roth pulled off a huge takedown in overtime to win a 4-2 sudden victory decision and gave the Lions a 12-9 lead.
John McArdle continues his successful ways as he defeated his opponent 17-11. Fort Hays was deducted a team point during the match so the Lions grabbed a 15-11 lead heading into the 197 match.
Kenny Breaux put the dual out of reach with an 11-4 decision and took pressure off of
Steven Butler for the heavyweight match as the Lions held an 18-11 lead. Butler showed his strength against No. 7 Trey Page by picking him up multiple times throughout the match. The Lions heavyweight scored a late takedown to extend his lead and score a 6-3 decision.
The Lions wrap up their home season and will travel down the road on Wednesday to take on No. 19 Maryville University at 7 p.m.
