Women's Basketball Opens Season in Wayne State Classic

Lindenwood Notes

-The Lady Lions open up 2015-16 with a weekend in Wayne, Neb.  Lindenwood will play in the Wayne State Classic starting with a Friday game at 6 p.m. against No. 24 Wayne State (Neb.), and a 2 p.m. start on Saturday against Northern State (S.D.).

-The Lady Lions rank ninth in the MIAA preseason coaches' poll.  

-Friday will be the first of a five-game road trip for the Lady Lions to start the year.  Lindenwood will close out the month of November with a home game, and it will remain in St. Charles, Mo. for the entire month of December.

-Lindenwood returns its top three performers from a year ago.  The Lady Lions lost just two players from last season.

-Last year, Kassidy Gengenbacher earned second team all-MIAA with her 18.4 points per game.  Jenny Rocha earned honorable mention all-MIAA for her 12.7 points per game and 4.2 assists per contest.  

-Vanessa Zailo ranked third in the NCAA with an average of 13.0 rebounds per game a season ago.

-Head coach Tony Francis is in his sixth season with Lindenwood.  Coach Francis holds a 67-72 record including an 11-16 season last year.

-The Lady Lions have added four new members including two freshmen and two transfers.

-Lindenwood had 11 players earn MIAA Academic Honor Roll recognition including nine returners.  Kassidy Gengenbacher was recognized as an MIAA Scholar-Athlete and earned Second-Team Academic All-District honors.

-Lindenwood lost its final game of the season, 73-69 to Central Missouri in the first round of the MIAA Tournament.  The Lady Lions went 2-7 to end the season.  Before the skid, the Lady Lions defeated Central Missouri 92-85 in an overtime thriller in St. Charles, Mo.

-The Lady Lions return 10 players from the young group of a season ago.  Lindenwood will count on the senior leadership from Jenny Rocha and Vanessa Zailo.

Last Time Out

-Lindenwood lost to Division I opponent Illinois State in an exhibition game last week.  The Lady Lions held a lead for the majority of the game, but they lost 71-70 in Normal, Ill.

-Freshman CeCe Rapp looked to be a veteran in mid-season form with her 20 points and 11 rebounds in the exhibition game.  Kassidy Gengenbacher ended her night with 19 points and eight rebounds.
