Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men’s Soccer Drops Regular Season Finale at Fort Hays, 1-0

The Lindenwood men's soccer team was defeated by the Fort Hays State Tigers, 1-0 on Sunday afternoon from Hays, Kan. The match was the final schedule contest of the regular season for the Lions. Earlier this year on October 10th, Lindenwood and Fort Hays played to a scoreless tie from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.

On Sunday, for the opening 31:04 of the match both teams held each other scoreless. However, is was at that moment the Tigers' Killian Gorman sprung teammate Brian Ness on a breakaway off of a long lead pass that Ness was able to send past Lindenwood keeper Andrew Hamerlinck for a 1-0 Fort Hays lead. The Tigers would carry the one goal lead into halftime. The second half presented much of the same frustration for Lindenwood, as they were unable to tally the game-tying goal and the match ended 1-0 in favor of Fort Hays State. In goal for Lindenwood, Hamerlinck made three saves while allowing one goal against. Alfredo Paez paced the Lions in shots with four, while Kyle Weinrich and Nijaz Muratovic each recorded shots on goal.

In the end, the Tigers held the advantage in shots (13-11), shots on goal (4-2), and corner kicks (5-4). Both teams ended the match receiving one yellow card each, while Andre Hayne of Lindenwood was issued a red card in the 86th minute.

Following the defeat, the Lions move their season record to 8-7-2 and 4-3-1 within the MIAA. With the win, the Tigers improve their season record to 12-5-1 and 4-3-1 in conference play.
