Game Recap: Women's Hockey |

Women's Hockey Eliminated From CHA Tournament

The Lindenwood women's ice hockey team saw its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon in University Park, Pa. The Lady Lions lost to Penn State by a 3-1 score, and it lost the best-of-three series CHA playoff series in two games.

The Nittany Lions led for almost the entire game after scoring the first goal just 2:02 into the contest. Lindenwood did tie the score at one with a goal at the 11:24 mark of that period. Lyndsay Kirkham scored with an assist from Carrie Atkinson.

Penn State quickly regained the lead and momentum when it answered less than two minutes later. The Nittany Lions added an insurance goal in the second period, and neither team scored again for the final 28 minutes.

Both teams had one power-play goal in the contest, although Lindenwood had three more chances than Penn State. Penn State finished with three more shots in the game.

Despite the loss, Lindenwood still had its best season in program history under first-year head coach Scott Spencer. Among the program firsts were reaching double-figure wins, earning a win over CHA powerhouse Mercyhurst, and defeating three WCHA programs.

The Lady Lions end the year with an overall record of 10-21-2, and they finished fifth in the CHA with a 7-11-2 conference record.
