Five Home Runs Power Lions Past Bronchos

The Lindenwood baseball team defeated Central Oklahoma 16-8 on Sunday to win the four-game series over the Bronchos.

Nathan Prindle opened the scoring for the Lions with a solo bomb in the first inning and a two-run double in the second to start the game with three RBI.  Wes Degener scored later in the inning on a wild pitch to give the Lions a 4-1 lead.  Central Oklahoma immediately struck back with five runs of its own to gain the lead.

The Lions tied the game back up at 5-5 when Wade Rothermich doubled to right center to drive in Degener.  Lindenwood regained the lead on a Vince Saladino double scoring that brought in Ryan Light.  Mike Wilson traded places with Saladino to give the Lions a 7-5 lead.  The Bronchos scored one in the bottom of the fifth but the Lions added two more runs when Rothermich and Drew Quinones hit back-to-back home runs and extended the lead to 8-6.

Lindenwood could not hold on to its two-run margin and again Central Oklahoma tied the game in the bottom of the seventh at 8-8.  The Lions did not let the Bronchos spoil their road trip and had a huge ninth inning.  Light started things with a one-out double to left field and scored the go-ahead run on a Saladino single.  Wilson reached base on a catcher's interference and both runners moved up on a Zac Perkins single.  All runners advanced on a sacrifice fly by Degener including Saladino who crossed the plate.

Prindle drew a walk and Rothermich followed with a grand slam for his second home run of the game.  Immediately after, Quinones hit his second blast of the game to cap off a great offensive day for Lindenwood and a 16-8 victory.  Rothermich, Quinones, and Ehrhard each hit two home runs of the Lions had nine home runs over the weekend.

Lindenwood improves to 11-14 on the year and 5-7 in the MIAA.  After the three-win road trip the Lions will host No. 21 Washburn for a four-game series starting on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
