Lindenwood is in a battle for the eighth and final spot in the MIAA Tournament. Lindenwood helped themselves by bouncing back after a game one 13-4 loss, by scoring a 4-3 victory in game two. The Lions rode the arm of
Dylan Terrell in game two, who finished just one out shy of a complete game, while striking out eight.
In the Lions first game, Central Missouri came out strong, scoring five in the first inning to put Lindenwood in a hole. It wasn't until the sixth inning before Lindenwood got on the board, finally figuring out Central Missouri's pitching, but the Lions had already been put in an 11-0 deficit. In the seventh, Lindenwood got hot, packing on three runs, but it proved not to be enough.
In game two, the Lions started out much better, thanks to a home run from Rothermich, the Lions jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Rothermich would score on a
Ryan Light double in the third to give Lindenwood a 3-0 lead. On the mound, Terrell was dealing, sitting the Central Missouri batters down in order the first four innings, including a fourth inning that saw him strike out the side. Terrell ran into his first sign of trouble in the fifth, after a strikeout the ball somehow got loose from the catcher's glove and the batter made it to first safely. That was followed by a bunt single, for the first Mules hit of the game. The Mules would go on to score a run to make the score 3-1. In the bottom half of the fifth, Rothermich doubled in lead-off hitter
Wes Degener to put the margin back at three. Terrell ran into some trouble closing the game out, allowing two runs on a double, but
Connor Law came in to get a ground out to short to close the game out.
Lindenwood's record goes to 24-23 overall and 14-16 in conference. The Lions have two more games coming up against Central Missouri this weekend, with one game tomorrow and one game on the 26th to close out Lindenwood's regular season.
