Men’s Lacrosse Beats No. 8 Seton Hill In Overtime On Senior Day

The Lindenwood men's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day on Saturday at Hunter Stadium by defeating No. 8 Seton Hill in overtime by an 11-10 score. Senior Graeme Hossack scored his second goal of the game just 13 seconds into overtime to give the Lions the victory.

In the first quarter Seton Hill jumped on the board first, but Lindenwood answered back with a goal from David Corazalla on a pass from McNein Hewitt. Seton Hill scored, but Lindenwood came back again, with a goal from Josh Coons on a pass from Hossack. Going into the first break in action, the score was knotted at 2-2.

Seton Hill came out, scoring a man up goal to take the lead, then added another to take a 4-2 lead. Jon George scored back-to-back goals put Lindenwood even at 4-4. After Seton Hill scored a goal to put them back on top, Lindenwood scored three goals within 45 seconds of each other. Hossack scored his first goal of the game off of a faceoff, scoring at 1:27. Spencer Elmore scored a goal after picking a Seton Hill player's pocket then taking the ball to the net himself at 00:56. While Elmore was finishing his shot, a Seton Hill player was called for a penalty for an illegal body check on Elmore. Lindenwood then got the ball with a man-up situation. 13 seconds into the man-up David Corazalla caught a pass from McNein Hewitt and fired it in for a goal to give the Lions a 7-5 lead with 43 seconds remaining in the second quarter. The Lions went into halftime with plenty of momentum.

The No. 8 Seton Hill Griffons weren't going to go quietly, coming out in the second half strong, scoring four consecutive goals to retake the lead, 9-7. Hewitt scored a goal with 55 seconds remaining in the period to keep the Lions from going scoreless in the third quarter. Lindenwood trailed 9-8 at the end of the third quarter.

Hewitt led off the fourth quarter with another goal to tie the game back at nine. Kevin Eskridge gave the Lions an 11-10 lead on a pass from Josh Coons with just over nine minutes remaining. With just over three minutes remaining, Seton Hill scored a goal to tie the game up. Both teams had opportunities to take the lead, but Ben Besancenez made some clutch saves to prevent the Griffons from scoring a goal. With 15 seconds remaining, Lindenwood took possession and tried to make a quick attack, deciding to call a timeout with 4.5 seconds remaining. Head coach Jimmy Lange called up a play, but Seton Hill's defense was stout, making Corazalla shoot a difficult shot, forcing the game into overtime.

Overtime was over just as it began. Tyler Schermann was battling tough for a faceoff, when the ball squirted out to Hossack, who took the ball straight at the Seton Hill goal and scored to end the game.

Lindenwood's senior list includes Joe Roy, McNein Hewitt, David Marlay, Graeme Hossack, Michael Yanko, Jake Redlingshafer, Brandon Stuebing, Andrew Szczepan, and Brandon Lenz.

The win improves Lindenwood's record to 13-2 and 5-2 in ECAC play. Coming up next for the Lions has yet to be determined, but it will be in the ECAC Tournament on May 1st.
