The Lindenwood baseball team defeated Culver-Stockton College 16-6 in Canton, Mo. on Tuesday afternoon.
The Lions scored first on an RBI single by
Drew Quinones, but gave up four runs in the bottom of the first which created a bit of urgency from Lindenwood.Â
Mike Ehrhard hit a solo home run to left field and cut into the Culver-Stockton lead. With two outs in the top of the third,
Ryan Light doubled to left field and scored on an Ehrhard single to center and brought the Lions within one run.Â
Michael Bibbs singled to left to put two runners on for
Mike Wilson. A hard hit double to left field by Wilson drove in Ehrhard and Bibbs to give the Lions a 5-4 lead.
Lindenwood broke the game open with a huge fourth inning.Â
Zac Perkins led off the top of the frame with a single to left field and moved to third on a
Wes Degener single.Â
Wade Rothermich hit the third consecutive single of the inning to drive in Perkins and moved Degener to second. Quinones reached bases on an error by the second baseman to load the bases for Light.
After a Culver-Stockton pitching change, Light singled to right field allowing all runners to move up including Degener to cross the plate. Ehrhard continued his monster day with a two-RBI single through the left side of the infield. Bibbs was pelted by a pitch to load the bases again for the Lions. Lindenwood added another run on a single by Wilson that drove in Light and Ehrhard later scored on a
Paul Sherwood sacrifice fly. The Lions put up six runs in the top of the fourth to take an 11-5 lead.
Lindenwood scored another run in the top of the fifth on an Ehrhard double that drove in Quinones from second base.Â
Kyle Kruger pinch-ran for Wilson in the sixth and stole second to get into scoring position. Kruger scored from second on a Perkins single through the right side to extend the Lions big lead.   The Lions put up three insurance runs in the top of the ninth as
Branden Sugar hit a two-RBI double down the left field line and scored on a Wilson double to left field.
The Lions pitching staff held Culver-Stockton to six runs including six innings from
Will Spitzfaden who earned his fourth victory of the year.Â
Brennan Hehner threw two innings and allowed just one run on two hits while
Matt Meier tossed a scoreless ninth inning to help seal the 18 win for the Lions.
Quinones has now reached bases in 22 consecutive games and Light's four-hit day tallies his 16
th multi-hit game on the year. Ehrhard hit his seventh home run of the season and the 40
th home run for the Lions.
Tuesday's win places the Lions at 18-18 on the year. The Lions will return home on Friday for the start of a four-game MIAA series with Southwest Baptist.  The series will begin Friday night at 6 p.m. at the Lou Brock Sports Complex in St. Charles, Mo.
