The No. 8 Lindenwood men's lacrosse team saw its best season in program history come to an end on Saturday afternoon in Gaffney, S.C. The Lions lost to No. 1 Limestone in the first round of the NCAA Division II Tournament by a 15-9 score.
Limestone scored the first four goals of the game and the Lions could never get the game tied back up. It trailed 8-5 at halftime, and was outscored 7-4 in the final half.
Both programs were among national leaders in faceoffs, but Limestone dominated that category on the day by winning 18-of-27. Lindenwood outshoot Limestone 40-36, but trailed 26-21 on shots on goal. Limestone had three more groundballs in the game and Lindenwood had one fewer turnover.
Kevin Eskridge led Lindenwood's offense with two goals and three assists.
Jon George and
Spencer Elmore each had two goals, and
Josh Coons had three assists.
McNein Hewitt had one goal and one assist.
Graeme Hossack finished his Lions career with one goal, six groundballs, and two caused turnovers. He had some success on faceoffs, winning four-of-seven. George had five groundballs and
Connor Laird forced two turnovers.
Lindenwood ends its season with a 14-4 overall record.
