The Lindenwood men's basketball team opened up 2016 with a 68-66 overtime loss to Washburn on Saturday in Topeka, Kan. The Ichabods ended the game on a 7-0 run, including a running jumper at the buzzer.

The Lions opened the overtime period with five straight points on a layup by
Zachary Biggs and a three-pointer from
Brad Newman. The team couldn't score again for the final 3:59, which allowed Washburn to comeback. The Ichabods tied the game with 1:31 remaining, and then had three opportunities on their final possession before sinking the game-winner.

Lindenwood, which trailed by four at halftime, also had a chance to win the game in regulation. The Lions had an 11-0 run midway through the half to go up 43-37. Washburn came back and the final minutes were back-and-forth. A
LJ McIntosh three-pointer with 43 seconds left gave the Lions a two-point lead, but Washburn tied it with 17 seconds left, and a three-pointer by Lindenwood in the final seconds was off the mark.

The Lions held Washburn to just 38.1 percent shooting from the field, including two-of-15 from three-point range. Lindenwood shot just 35.8 percent from the field, and 31.8 percent from three-point range. In its first MIAA road game of the season, the Lions, who came into the game among the nation's leaders in fewest fouls, were called for over 20 fouls. The Ichabods took advantage by scoring seven more points from the free-throw line, which proved to be the difference.

Cory Arentsen led Lindenwood's offense by scoring 23 points, including shooting eight-of-11 from two-point range. He also had seven rebounds, two assists, and a steal.
LJ McIntosh finished one point away from his career-high as he scored 13 points, including making three three-pointers.
Zachary Biggs led the Lions with 10 rebounds and four blocks.

Lindenwood falls to 8-4 overall and 4-2 in MIAA play. The Lions take on Emporia State on Monday evening in Emporia, Kan.
