Men's Basketball Hits Clutch Shots For Victory Over Northeastern State

The Lindenwood men's basketball team hit clutch shots down the stretch which led the team to a 75-69 victory over Northeastern State on Thursday night in Tahlequah, Okla.
 
The Lions led for most of the night, but a 13-4 run by Northeastern State gave the RiverHawks a 63-60 lead with 3:40 remaining in the game. LJ McIntosh hit a three-pointer to tie the game and start a strong finishing run by Lindenwood. Northeastern State took its final lead with two free throws, but Cory Arentsen answered with a three-pointer to put Lindenwood up 66-65.
 
Lindenwood's defense forced two straight misses, and the Lions scored after both with a Brad Newman field goal and another Arentsen three-pointer. Newman hit four free throws in the final 20 seconds to close out the win.
 
The Lions shot 54.5 percent from the field, including seven-of-14 from three-point range. Lindenwood also made 20 free throws. Northeastern State shot just 37.5 percent, and made 15 free throws. The Lions did have twice as many turnovers which helped the RiverHawks have 20 more field-goal attempts in the game.
 
Lindenwood school history was made in the second half when Stanislas Heili blocked his third shot of the game. The block was his 52nd of the season, which was a new Lindenwood single-season record. He added one more block in the game to finish with four on the night.
 
Offensively, Lindenwood was led by Arentsen who finished with 29 points. He shot 10-of-17 from the field, including four-of-six from three-point range. Brad Newman finished with 18 points, half of which he earned at the free-throw line. Heili, Sam Mader, and McIntosh all finished with seven points.
 
Mader finished with a team-high seven rebounds, one more than Arentsen. Arensten led the team with four assists.
 
Lindenwood improves to 14-6 on the season and 10-4 in MIAA play. The Lions continue their road trip on Saturday at Central Oklahoma.
