Men’s Soccer Handles Upper Iowa in Road Victory

The Lindenwood men's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to seven games, as it defeated Upper Iowa 4-2 on Saturday afternoon. The MIAA matchup was played at Pattison Field in Fayette, Iowa.

Lindenwood used back-to-back goals in the 12th and 14 minutes to build itself a 2-0 cushion early in the first half. 

Gabriel Jaimes got the Lions on the scoresheet first, registering his third goal of the season. Xhovani Dokaj and Ryan Butchart picked up the assist on the Jaimes goal. Dokaj's assist extended his personal point streak to six games.

Just two minutes later, Nijaz Muratovic added to the Lindenwood lead, scoring his second goal of the season. Thomas Hutcheson was credited with the lone assist on the Muratovic score, his second assist and twelfth point of the year.

Johannes Brendle would extend the Lindenwood lead to three goals, following his score at the 21:26 mark of the first half.  Adnan Mahmatovic tallied the lone assist on Brendle's second goal of the season. 

Mahmatovic would find the back of the net seven minutes later in the 29th minute. Mahmatovic's unassisted score came as he beat a Peacock defender and keeper to give Lindenwood a 4-0 lead.

The Lions would carry the four goal edge into halftime.

After 18 minutes of scoreless action to open the second half, Upper Iowa cut into the lead with a goal by Ryan Pinkerton in the 64th minute. The Peacocks goal brought the score to 4-1.
Just 38 seconds later, Upper Iowa struck again. Ryan Crabtree provided the Peacock goal, making the score 4-2.

Aleksa Nenadic and Tim Licht split time in goal for Lindenwood, with Nenadic making the start. Nenadic turned in three saves during the first half, while Licht one save.

In the end, Lindenwood held the advantage in shots (16-8) and shots on goal (8-6). The two teams tied in corner kicks (3-3) and saves (4-4).

With the conference win, the Lions improve to 7-2-2 and 3-0-0 in MIAA action. Following the loss, Upper Iowa moves to 3-6-0 and 1-2-0 in conference play. The Lions will return to action on Wednesday evening for a 7:00 p.m. matchup with Oakland City from Hunter Stadium in St. Charles, Mo.
