Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Sanchez’s Dramatic 89th Minute Score Helps Men's Soccer Knock Off No. 16 Fort Hays

The No. 22 ranked Lindenwood men's soccer team defeated the No. 16 ranked Fort Hays Tigers 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in Hays, Kan. The victory extends the Lions current unbeaten streak to nine games.

The Lions got off to a quick start, taking a 1-0 lead in the third minute of the game. Nijaz Muratovic scooped up a loose ball in the box and shot it into the left side of the net for his third goal of the season.

Lindenwood maintained its one-goal lead for the majority of the first half, before extending the lead to two goals in the 32nd minute. Xhovani Dokaj scored his MIAA-leading 12th goal of the season, off of a deflected cross pass.

Dokaj's goal sent the Lions into halftime with a 2-0 lead.

Fort Hays cut into the Lindenwood lead at the 51:06 mark of the second half. The Tigers goal was scored by Derick Gonzalez, and brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Lions.

Fort Hays would draw even at 2-2 in the match's 63rd minute, following a Luis Torres goal.

The game would remain deadlocked until late in the second half, when play seemed destined to head to overtime. However in the 89th minute, Jose Sanchez scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal. Assisting on Sanchez's second game-winning goal of the season, were Gaspar Alvarez and Dokaj.

Aleksa Nenadic made the start in goal for Lindenwood, turning in four saves en route to his ninth victory of the season.

Fort Hays held the edge in shots (13-10) and corner kicks (8-4). Each team sent six shots on goal.

Following the victory, Lindenwood improves its season record to 9-2-2 and 4-0-0 from within the MIAA. With the loss, Fort Hays moves to 7-3-1 and 3-1-0 in conference play.

The Lions will return to action on October 20 in Bolivar, Mo. for an MIAA matchup with the Southwest Baptist Bearcats at 3:00 p.m.
