Lady Lions Prepare for Home Opener

The Lindenwood women's basketball team will host Puerto Rico-Mayaguez on Wednesday for the 2016-17 home opener in Hyland Arena at 2 p.m.
 
Lindenwood Notes:
-The Lady Lions are looking to start the home-season off on the right foot after falling to McKendree 66-57 on Saturday in Lebanon, Ill.  Lindenwood ended the 2015-16 season 0-6 in Hyland Arena after starting 4-2.
 
-Freshman Kallie Bildner has been a force for the Lady Lions in the early portion of the season as she recorded her second-consecutive double-double on Saturday.  Bildner tallied 22 points with 12 rebounds while shooting 8-of-15 from the field and 4-of-6 from long range.  The 6-3 Waynesville, Mo. native is averaging 17 points and 8.3 rebounds on the season and is shooting 56 percent from behind the arc.
 
-St. Charles, Mo. native Gabby Walker is scoring nine points per contest with five boards per game.  Walker is contributing 23 points per game and is second on the squad with five steals.  Senior transfer Alex Haley is shooting a strong 63 percent from the field for 8.3 points per game while leading the team with 13 assists.
 
-Lindenwood is shooting just under 45 percent on the season along with a 68 percent free throw percentage.  The Lady Lions are winning the rebound margin by 8.3 per game, but has turned the ball over 70 times in three games.
 
-After the mid-week meeting with Puerto Rico-Mayaguez, Lindenwood will host Lindenwood-Belleville on Nov. 29 at 7 p.m. in Hyland Arena.  The Lady Lions will hit the road one more time in early-December before beginning conference play on December 8 against Pittsburg State at Hyland Arena in St. Charles, Mo.
 
Wednesday's Game:
-Puerto Rico-Mayaguez hosted Winona State on Nov. 12 in Puerto Rico as the Janes fell 76-36 to visiting Warriors.  The Janes shot 26 percent from the field, seven percent from three-point range, and 50 percent from the free-throw line.
 
-Vianca Malave was the leading scorer for the Janes as she posted 10 points with four rebounds and two steals.  Itamar Rosado scored five points and grabbed six rebounds as the Janes turned the ball over 20 times.
 
-Puerto Rico-Mayaguez will play Missouri-St. Louis on Tuesday prior to visiting Hyland Arena on Wednesday.
 
-The Janes won just two games against NCAA D-II opponents last season, but the team won the local league championship in Puerto Rico.  Head Coach Franklin Roman has been the head of the program since 2010.
