Looking to ride the momentum from the quarterfinal win on Wednesday night over Northeastern State, the Lindenwood women's soccer team dropped a 3-0 contest on Friday to No. 4 Central Missouri from Warrensburg, Mo.
Â
Chances held even until the 22nd minute. The Jennies made a long pass down the sideline to MIAA Offensive Player of the Year, Jada Scott, who crossed it to the far left side of the box to find the head of Courtney Killian for her third goal of the season.
Â
Central Missouri tacked on another score 18 minutes later when Hannah Pyle shot it just under the charging keeper
Mary McGilvray to make it 2-0 late in the first half.
Â
Jackie Lindner and
Kat Roe each had a shot on goal in the first half, but it was
Becky Roberts who nearly made the score 1-0 in favor of Lindenwood early on when she made UCM keeper Ana Dilkes make a diving stop.
Â
The host Jennies held the edge in shots at halftime with a 10-4 mark, and also had four corner kick opportunities compared to the Lady Lions' one.
Â
Lindenwood had another four shots in the second half, but only
Taylor Wade put one on goal late period. The Lady Lions amped up their pressure in the final 45 minutes, however, resulting in four corner kicks. Despite surrendering another seven shots on goal in the second half to Central Missouri, the Lady Lions played stingy defense to not allow a legitimate scoring chance for the Jennies.
With just four seconds left in the match, Pyle tallied another goal when she was all alone with McGilvray out of the box. The final whistle blew with a 3-0 final on the scoreboard, and Lindenwood bowed out of the MIAA tournament.
Â
McGilvray finished with eight saves on the day, and dropped to 3-7-0 for her junior campaign and first season at Lindenwood.
Â
The Lady Lions fell to 10-8-1 to end the season. Central Missouri will play the winner between two-seed Fort Hays State and three-seed Central Oklahoma for the MIAA title on Sunday in Warrensburg.
